LARGE Vint. 20th Ce. Albert Namajira print Ghost Gums MacDonnell Range
$145
SHIPPING OFFERED
Offered for sale is this large vintage 20th Century Australian print of Albert Namajira’s ‘Valley Ghost Gums – MacDonnell Ranges’, published by the Legend Press Pty Ltd (printed by Pot Still Press Pty Ltd) and most likely dating from the 1970’s to 1980’s. An Arrernte man (born 1902) Albert would become one of Australia’s most important and influential 20th Century indigenous contemporary artists, rightly regarded as a key figure of the Hermannsburg painting movement. His natural talent, unique style and bold colour palate used in depicting Central Australia landscape continues to influence modern painting to this day.
A high-quality colour reproduction of an original watercolour - most likely painted during the 1940’s to 1959. It depicts a set of three ancient white ghost gums amongst an iron-oxide red rocky outcrop with their trunks and branches cleverly framing the distant ranges. By deliberately using a stronger colour tone to the gums and outcrop in the foreground, in the background ranges Albert has sensitively captured the optical ‘fading’ that occurs with heat haze and distance in the outback.
In very good original condition, the colours remain strong. The original frame has some patination and losses.
Measures (framed) 60.5cm (h) x 83.5cm (w) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.
